Chowghat Orange Dwarf Coconut, commonly known as COD, is a well-known dwarf coconut cultivar originating from the Chowghat region of Kerala. It is particularly popular for tender coconut production because of its attractive orange-coloured fruits and desirable tender coconut water. The variety is an early-bearing dwarf type, making it suitable where earlier production and easier harvesting are preferred. Its relatively compact growth also makes it a practical choice for home gardens and smaller plantations compared with tall coconut varieties. Chowghat Orange Dwarf is mainly valued for tender nuts, while the mature coconuts can also be used for household and other coconut-based purposes. Proper irrigation, soil management, nutrition and plant protection are important for achieving good growth and yield.
